YOU HAVE A NEW EDITOR
Letter from the editor:
My name is Diane and I am an alcoholic. I also happen to
be a journalist, so the newsletter seems an appropriate means of giving back to AA. My home group is Sisters and Brothers
in Sobriety, although I generally think of it as 4th and Main. I guess that’s because I tend to think finding
the meeting is more important than the formal name of the group. I came into the rooms of AA in 2003 after my doctor told
me I had liver damage and should quit drinking to stop its progression, but relapsed repeatedly until 2007. Nothing worked
– not outpatient, rehab, medical detoxes, and jail, not even the prospect of imminent death. What did work? AA. That
was my constant, my compass. Early on in the program, a friend told me these two things over and over: Do the next right thing.
Keep putting one foot in front of the other. Those are touchstones for me. And here’s another I picked up at Clearview: Baby steps. I still turn to those touchstones every day, as well as the Serenity Prayer
and many AA //other slogans that I found helpful on the road to recovery. There’s a Web site where you can find 250
of them, if you’re so inclined. Setting the tone for the day is also important for me. I start my day with Daily Reflections,
which gives you 12 and 12 in tiny doses – baby steps -- and try to make it to a 10 a.m. meeting when I can. And I usually
try to make a meeting every day. It works for me. Just keep it simple and keep
coming back. I view our newsletter and Web site as operating in tandem, just as newspapers these days appear in print and
online. I am the point person for the newsletter, with a strong assist and backup
from Vinnie, who’s other hat, is head honcho for the Web site. Both are an Intergroup effort. We welcome comments and
suggestions, and we will distribute a check-off and/or comments survey with the April newsletter. Diane H. storier@myway.com 579-5556
